CONTEXT: This project is a collaboration between ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Thurber House, and the Ohio State University's Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD). ProMusica performed Peter Schickele's Thurber's Dogs - Suite for Orchestra, at the Southern Theatre on Dec 15, 2013 and January 10-11, 2009. In partnership with Promusica and Thurber House, graduate students at the OSU's ACCAD animated the Thurber dog illustrations that originally inspired the music. This project, part of ProMusica's 30th Anniversary Season in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of Thurber House, lended opportunity for an artistic, creative, and educational piece that celebrated the spirit of Columbus author James Thurber.

He Goes with His Owner into Bars
My Role: Story, Art Direction, Storyboard/Animatic, Layout & Animation; 3D Models - owner, hands, stool, beer barrel, trees.
The story is based around the concept of a dog drinking alcohol and becoming drunk. The story illustrates both the subjective effects of alcohol on the dog's mind and body as well as the objective view of the surrounding environment. Water is used as a metaphor for beer; the dog's interaction with water is based on his level of intoxication. Original illustration by James Thurber pictured below.
Hunting Hounds
My Role: Story, Art Direction, Storyboard, Animatic, 3D Models - trees, tree stumps
The story is centered around the idea of dogs hunting a rabbit. Based around the fact that a dog relies on her sense of smell to interpret the world, in much the same way as people depend on their sight, I use sense of smell as the method for portraying a dog’s subjective view of objects. To interpret a dog’s sense of smell, I use a connect-the-dot theme. As the dog begins to smell, traces of the object appear until eventually the dots are connected and the object is revealed after the dog has identified it.
