COMPANY: GMR Marketing  |  CLIENT: Visa, Tokyo 2020 Olympics
CONTEXT: Visa is a long-time sponsor of the Olympics and Paralympics. GMR partners with Visa to bring their brand to life at the Olympic and Paralympic Games to create impactful experiences within megastores and other official locations. For multiple years, GMR has partnered with Visa to create their in Olympic store re-usable bag designs. For the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, they wanted to create a more unique custom design for their VIP hospitality guests.
TACTICS: I collaborated with other 2D designers on the campaign to participate in a series of design studies. This included layouts of athletes with the Visa Dynamic Wave and bag designs. As the only motion designer I was able to utilize animation tools and 3D software to create unique designs. I utilized Team Visa Athlete photos, the Visa dynamic wave, and incorporated brushstroke elements into some of the designs - paying homage to Japanese calligraphy.
I created a 3D rotating bag to showcase the designers bag concepts. This was used for internal reviews and client presentations.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Megastore Exterior Wall: Wave Layout
To provide 2D designers with a reference on sizing of the lines in actual 3D space, I created a 3D model of the dynamic wave and positioned the layout to mimic the movement of the athlete photos. I then recreated the 3D wave in vector form, positioned the athletes, and provided that to the 2D designers as a reference for the final print layout.

Motion Design References:
I found videos of athletes doing the sport that matched Team Visa athlete photos, and used them as references to create wave layouts that matched the movement of each athlete. These layouts were given to print designers to use as references for placement of the Visa Dynamic Wave with athletes.
